Change Catalyst

Change Catalyst

January is a great time for us to reflect on the previous year and make necessary changes in the New Year.

No matter how your last year turned out for you, I am certain you want things to turn out better in this new year, I am also certain that God wants a better situation for you as well.

Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.
1 Corinthians 2:9

People may have made new year resolutions. “Pray more”, “get a new job”, “be nicer to people”, “make more friends”.

With a minute… we went through the same ritual last year.

This year let’s take a step back and re-evaluate our situation. Why do we need to take a step back? I will alude to a physical law called the Newton’s 1st law of Motion which states that

Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.

1 chronicles 4: 9: Jabez was more honourable than His brothers. 10 Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm so that it might not bring me pain!” And God granted what he asked.

The name Jabez in Hebrew means “he makes sorrowful”.

V9 states that “he was more honourable that his brother”, he probably tried everything He could to make things work right for him , and I believe that he was godly because it is said he prayed to God.

It seems Jabez had suffered some misfortune in the past and these setbacks may have affirmed his name. His prayer ’that you would keep me from harm so that it might not bring me pain’ indicates that he wants his life to became a contradiction of his name. He needed a catalyst to change the course of his life. That catalyst for change came about because of his prayer. That catalyst is God answering his prayer.

If there is no catalyst for a change in our lives, things remain the same.

Are you feeling the burden from last year, burden of debts, failed relationship, failed career etc. this prayer should encourage you that God can make all the difference.

Happy new year.
